About me

Michael Paul Sommer

I didn't start running to get fit. I started because I needed an outlet. Running strips you down. There's no hiding from it. Just you, your breath, and the voice in your head telling you to stop.

The ones who keep going anyway? That's not talent. That's a decision, and once you make it, you're not the same person who started.

Most people spend their whole life avoiding discomfort. We run toward it. On purpose. Because that's where you find out who you actually are.

Running Atlantic isn't a running club. It's a room full of people who chose the harder route and want you to choose it too.

You don't need to be fast. You don't need to be ready. You just need to show up for yourself, once.

About the brand

What Running Atlantic stands for

What we stand for: Go to Rondebosch Common at any hour and someone is already running. Six in the morning, eight at night, or mid winter. The loop is never empty. Running Atlantic is here to bring all those that love the Common and running together.

  1. 01 — Nobody Runs Alone

It's not a slogan, it's the promise. Show up not for the hype but to better yourself and surround yourself with people who are doing the same. Nobody gets dropped, nobody finishes on their own, and nobody arrives to find the Common empty.

  2. 02 — Open Ground, Open Club

The Common is public. So is this. If you can get to the start, you're in.

  3. 03 — Pace Doesn't Decide Who Belongs

The front of the pack and the back of the pack are doing the same work. Being new here isn't a disadvantage, it's just the first Monday.

  4. 04 — Consistency Beats Talent

Come back tomorrow and you will be better than you were today. That's one of the many lessons running teaches you, and it isn't restricted just to running.

  5. 05 — Bring Whatever You're Carrying

Come to train. Come to meet people. Come to better yourself. Show up for yourself.

First light or last light. Both weeks, every week.
